Allan Simmons

Allan J. Simmons, 66, of Cheboygan, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017 at McLaren Northern Michigan in Cheboygan.

A lifelong resident of Cheboygan, Allan was born March 3, 1951 in Cheboygan, the son of James Maxwell “Max” and Helen (MacDonald) Simmons.  On September 23, 2015 in Cheboygan he married Kathy Mulka.  He was employed as a journey man meat cutter, and had been employed at Ken’s Market in Indian River, Glen’s in Cheboygan, and had owned and operated Great Lakes Meat in Cheboygan from 2002-2014.  Allan also enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and processing, trips to the casino, barbecuing, lawn mowing, spending time outdoors, and was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, and was a former member of the Cheboygan Eagles and Moose.

Surviving are his wife Kathy, his children, Allan Simmons, Jr. of Cheboygan, Jennifer (Leon) LaHaie of Mackinaw City, Douglas Nelson, Andrew Nelson, Sarah Nelson, and Tracie Nelson, all of Cheboygan, two grandchildren, Paige LaHaie, and Anthony Carney, his siblings, Mary Ellen Miller of Sebewaing, Virginia Simmons of Mt. Pleasant, Esther (Dan) Anderson of Cheboygan, Catherine Hefferon of Cheboygan, George (Alice) Simmons of Gaylord and William (Pam) Simmons of Cheboygan, sister in law, Lois Simmons, also of Cheboygan, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, James.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Thursday, August 10, 2017, at the Cheboygan Eagles, with a luncheon immediately following.
