Anna Mae Stead

May 8, 1937 ~ April 18, 2017 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Anna Mae Stead, 79 of Petoskey, walked on unexpectedly on April 18, 2017.

Anna was born on May 8, 1937 in Good Hart, MI, the daughter of Daniel and Eva (Petoskey) Naganashe and was raised by 5 Mile Creek and later in Harbor Springs. 

In May of 1960, Anna married the love of her life, Francis James Stead.  Together they made their home at 915 Petoskey Street and there they raised their children and helped raise their grandchildren. Anna worked as private housekeeper for many years.  Francis preceded anna in death after 48 wonderful years of marriage.

Anna was a citizen of the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians and always enjoyed the cultural connections with her community and spending time with others at the Elders Luncheons.   She enjoyed going to the casino, crossword puzzles, and watching wheel of fortune, but her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially around the holidays.

She is survived by 10 children, Glenn (Kathy) Stead of Petoskey, Debbie (Felix) Stanislawski of England, Karen (Ron) Boda of Grand Rapids, Larry (Laurie) Stead of Petoskey, Mary (Ken) Roberts of Indian River, Frances Bush of Oden, Robert Stead of Afton, Beverly McLean of Petoskey, Joseph Stead of Indian River, and David Stead of Petoskey; 30 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren with another on the way; 1 great great grandchild with another on the way, a sister, Diane Naganashe of Harbor Springs; and by a brother, Joseph Naganashe of Mt. Morris, MI.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Francis; son, Eric Stead; 3 sisters, Mary Bryant, Shirley Oldman, and Margaret Naganashe; and by a brother, Patrick Naganashe.

The family will receive friends at the Stone Funeral Home on Friday, April 21st from 6-8pm.  A service celebrating Anna’s life will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 22 at 11am.
