Betty Jo (Gray) Hoyes

Betty Jo Hoyes, 87 of Topinabee passed away on May 18, 2018 at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey.

Betty was born on March 3, 1931 in Middlesboro, KY, the son of Troy Adam Gray and Zelma Mae (Morris) Gray. She grew up in Detroit and attended school at Western High School in Detroit. On June 20, 1959, she married Frank Hoyes in New Hudson, MI at the Methodist Church. The couple moved to Indian River in 1972. Betty held many jobs over the years including a Michigan Bell Telephone Operator, a clerk at Ken's Village Market, and a home healthcare aid. In the periods of time that she wasn't working she was busy raising a large family. Betty enjoyed playing guitar, singing, basket weaving, reading, Jeopardy, traveling, and shopping. She was a former member of Friends of the Library, Winsome Women, and most recently a member of the Red Hatters.

Betty is survived by her children Vicki (Arthur) Wright, Sharon (Michael) Smith, Valerie (Michael) Gotham, Bradley (Joelee) Hoyes, Gregory Hoyes, and Leah (Randy) Vieau, stepchildren Patricia (Norman) Smith, Doreen (Larry) Pilkington, and Thomas (Patricia) Hoyes, sister Jean Haro, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Frank W. Hoyes, father Troy, mother Zelma, and brother Roy "Russ" Gray.

A graveside service will be held for Betty on Sunday, June 24th at 1pm at Oak Hill Cemetery in Indian River.
