Bonnie Mae Johnson Madary, 85 of Harbor Springs, passed away peacefully at McLaren Hospital on December 4, 2018, surrounded by family.
Bonnie was born on March 14, 1933, the daughter of Dewitt Bearup and Gretchen Webb.
Bonnie lived her entire life in the Petoskey area. She graduated from Petoskey High School in 1951. That same year, Bonnie married Melvin G. Johnson, together they started a family in Petoskey. Melvin preceded her in death.
In 1983, she married Earl Madary, he also preceded her in death.
Throughout the years, Bonnie worked at McCrory's, as the restaurant's manager and at Northern Michigan Hospital until her retirement in 1995. She loved gardening, walking her constant companion "Lil' Red", knitting, crocheting, reading and search word puzzles. Most of all, Bonnie loved spending time with her family.
Bonnie is survived by her five children, Rose (Ed) Gokee of Harbor Springs, Carol (Randy) Kuburski of Petoskey, Shirley (Rusty) Hughey of Harbor Springs, Mary (Carl) Cotanche of Boyne City, and Janet (Fred) Martin of Roanoke, Virginia; step-son, Melvin Young of Oxnard, California; brother, Ivan (Sharon) Bearup of Walloon Lake; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her two husbands, Melvin Johnson and Earl Madary; a son, Gerald (Jerry) Johnson; siblings, Howard, Lyle, June and Arnold Bearup; a granddaughter; and two great grandchildren.
There will be a funeral service on Monday, December 10, 2018 at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation hour beginning at 10:00. Reverend David Behling will officiate.
Memorial may be made to the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
