Carol Longyear

Carol J. Longyear, 83, of St. Ignace, formerly Levering, passed away Monday, February 26, 2018 at Evergreen Living Center in St. Ignace.

Carol was born January 7, 1935 in Detroit, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Carlson) Hubbard.  She was a graduate of Denby High School in Detroit.  On September 7, 1954 in Auburn, Indiana, she married Robert C. Longyear, who preceded her in death.  With him, she owned and operated the L and W grocery store for many years in Levering, and later worked as a payroll clerk for Sheplers in Mackinaw City.  She enjoyed sewing, reading, and watching wildlife, and was an active member of the Church of the Straits in Mackinaw City until she was unable to drive and then attended New Hope Church in Levering. She also attended Winsome Women and enjoyed attending retreats with women from the Church of the Straits, and was a member of the Munro Helping Hands Club.

Surviving are two daughters, Denise Longyear of Mohawk, Michigan, and Laurie Gulliksen of Levering, Michigan, six grandchildren, Sara (Neelesh) Nundkumar of Greensboro, North Carolina, Adam Smith of Santa Rosa, California, Elizabeth Smith of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, Erica Gulliksen of Tacoma, Washington, Brett Sullivan of Los Angeles, California, and Erin Sullivan of Oak Park, Michigan, 2 great grandchildren, Arya and Avi Nundkumar, brother in law James Cavallaro East Detroit, Michigan, nephew and nieces, her dear friend since high school, Shirley Russell of Detroit, and her dog Max, who would visit and spend nights with her at Evergreen Living Center,

In addition to her husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Shirley Cavallaro.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 5, 2018 at 11:00am, with the family greeting friends beginning at 10:00am, at the Church of the Straits in Mackinaw City, with Rev. Dave Wallis officiating.
