Catherine Schwartzfisher, 99 of Petoskey, died July 17, 2019 at Mallard Cove Assisted Living.
Catherine was born on December 28, 1919, one of fifteen children, to John and Anna (Haas) Schwartzfisher. She attended elementary school at the Carpenter School, a one room school house in Resort Township, and middle school at St. Francis Catholic School.
During World War II, Catherine lived in Detroit and worked in a factory as a Rosie the Riveter girl where she helped make airplane parts. She took a job at Michigan Bell Telephone and worked various positions there until her retirement in 1984. It was at this time that Catherine and her sister Helen moved back to Petoskey to live on their family farm on Camp Daggett Road.
She enjoyed traveling, hiking, dancing, reading and doing crossword puzzles. She was a devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
Catherine is survived by her siblings, Joseph (Louise) Schwartzfisher of Petoskey, Teresa Biggs of South Bend, Indiana, Leo (Beverly) Schwartzfisher of Petoskey, and Edith (Gordon) Kruskie of Harbor Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Helen Schwartzfisher, Mary Mead, Agnes Wahl, A. Regina Haase, Rita Ritedorf, and Rose Novey; and brothers, John Schwartzfisher, Richard Schwartzfisher, Bernard Schwartzfisher and Alfred Schwartzfisher.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, July 22, 2019 at St. Francis Xavier Church at 10:30 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Father Gregory McCallum will officiate. Burial will take place immediately following Mass at St. Francis Cemetery.
