Celeste (Ranville) Jewell

Celeste M. Jewell, 89, of Mackinaw City, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Hancock Haven in Cheboygan.

A lifelong resident of Mackinaw City, Celeste was born February 10, 1929 in Mackinaw City, the daughter of George and Edna (Sailer) Ranville.  She served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1952, being stationed in Jacksonville, Florida.  On January 18, 1970 in St. Ignace, she married David Jewell.  Celeste had worked at the Greyhound Bus Depot, Cunningham’s and O’Brien’s, all in Mackinaw City, retiring in 1991.  She enjoyed gardening, baking bread and cinnamon rolls, and canning, and served as the sexton at Lakeview Cemetery. She was also a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Red Hat Society, and the American Legion Post #159, where she was the former adjutant. Celeste’s family would like to thank Ardis and Bonnie and everyone at Hancock Haven for the exceptional care that she received while being there.

Surviving is her husband, David, a sister, Martha Darrow, and a brother, Edward Ranville, both of Mackinaw City, a sister in law, Mary Ellen Burke of Iron River, and many nieces and nephews.

Celeste went to join her parents, and beloved six sisters, Aurilie, Eleanor, Faith, Katheryn, Rosalie, and Georgianna, who have preceded her in death.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:00am, with the family greeting friends beginning at 10:00am, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Mackinaw City.  Rev. Paul Megge and Sister Chris Herald, O.P. will officiate, burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Mackinaw City.

Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church, or the Food Pantry at the Church of the Straits.
