Clara M (knockeart) Crain

Clara M. Crain, 96 of Boyne City passed away peacefully at home on June 9th, 2017. Clara was born on March 18th, 1921 in Detroit to Joseph and Julia (Deprez) Knockeart.

On September 4th, 1942 she married Elmer F. Crain in Detroit. They lived in Ellsworth and Charlevoix, settling in Boyne City. They had 4 children; Larry, Carol, Roy, and Mickey.

Clara enjoyed family gatherings, especially the Christmas party, which was always held at her home. She also enjoyed going to the casino, word searches, Dancing with the Stars and working at Boyne Mountain.

Clara began working at Boyne Mountain January of 1953, and remained with Boyne for more than 50 years. Her service to Boyne was celebrated at least three times; first in her 25th year with a surprise party and a gold watch. Boyne USA celebrated a party that coincided with her 70th birthday and 39 years’ service. At that time she stated, “She loved her job and enjoyed working for Mr. (Everett) Kircher all these years and being part of the ‘Boyne Family’”. After 50 years, and at age 80, was given a surprise celebration retirement party. She was given a wonderful vacation to Hawaii.

Clara is survived by three children, Carol (Don) Straw, Roy Crain, and Mickey Crain, daughter in law Theresa Crain, grandchildren Diane Crain (Dan Scott), Mason (Debbie) Straw, Scott (Jane) Crain, Mike (Pamela) Straw, Mark Crain (Alicia Liberty), Renee Crain (fiancé Tim Prow), Matt Crain, Donny Straw, Becca (Preston) Peck, great-grandchildren Nicole (Jeremy) Crain, Cody Crain, Tori Straw, Kimberly Crain, Dale Jenkins, Alainna Malkowicz, Lance Straw, and Jayse Malkowicz, great-great grandchildren Aaron Pickard and Makayla McCardy as well as many nieces and nephews along with very special friends Pat and Charlie Leese. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer, her son Larry, siblings Wally, Charlie, Lawrence, George, Raymond, and Mary, granddaughter Jennifer Crain, great grandson Christopher Crain, and infant great granddaughter Ashley Malkowicz.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 12th from 6-8 pm at the Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City and a funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 13th at 11:30am at the Stackus Funeral Home.
