Clifford Wiser Jr.

Clifford Wiser Jr. took his last flight on November 1, 2017 at the age of 96. He was at home surrounded with the love of his family.

Born in St. Louis, MI on August 9, 1921. He was the second child born to Tressel (Story) Wiser and Clifford Wiser.

After graduating from St. Louis schools in 1940 he worked at the Lobdell CO. for a short time, learned to fly in 1941 and was a partner in a Piper Airplane.

In August of 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Corp. Clifford served in the south Pacific until the end of 1944 and then was stationed at Hamilton Air Base in California until the end of World War II. He was one of the flight crew members that flew to Atsugi Air Base, Japan in August 1945.

On March 7, 1946 he married Mary Martha Downs of Alma, MI. They raised six children.

Clifford owned several Airplanes from single place experimental to five passenger planes. He was the former Operation Officer and Pilot of the Civil Air Patrol and Secretary and Treasurer of the Experimental Aircraft Association at the old Alma, MI airport.

Clifford retired from Michigan Bell Telephone CO. in Cadillac, MI  1984.

Throughout the years, Clifford, with his late wife Mary, enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing and gardening. After retirement they traveled to nearly every U.S. State and Canadian province, including Alaska in the year 1991, where they flew to Point Barrow north of the Arctic Circle to visit an Eskimo Village. In 1995 they cruised the Hawaii Islands aboard a ship where they renewed their wedding vows. Their last long trip was to Mainland China in 1996 with Jim and Ferona Wiser.

In retirement they spent most of the winters at their home in Florida.

Clifford is Survived by his Sons C. Douglas Wiser of Wolverine, MI, Robert (Cathy) Wiser of Indian River, MI. Daughters Carol Esmar of St. Charles, MO, Sheryl (Ron) Parling of St. Louis, MI.  10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren (with two more on the way).  Siblings Eloise Miller of Lansing, MI and Joyce French of Alma, MI.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Martha Wiser (May 26, 2001), daughters Shirley Ann Jones Wolf (May 26, 1981), Nancy Lynn Wiser (October 25, 2017) and son-in-law Jack Esmar (March 17,2013). Siblings Evelyn Simonovic, James Wiser, Richard Wiser and Mildred Tester Roach.

Services for Clifford will be held on November 11, 2017, with visitation beginning at 1pm and memorial service beginning at 2pm at the Lintz Funeral Home.The Rev. John B. Wallace will officiate.
