David H. Johnson, age 73, of Cheboygan passed away Monday, May 27, 2019 at Mallard Cove Assisted Living in Petoskey. He was born June 19, 1945 in Flint, the son of Max H. and Betty J. (Miller) Johnson. On January 27, 1990 in Traverse City, Dave married Susan Munn who survives.
Dave graduated from Swartz Creek High School and Eastern Michigan University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Education. He taught drafting at Swartz Creek Middle and High Schools for 23 years and from 1991 – 2005, owned and operated Dave Johnson Builders, Inc., a custom home builder, building homes in both Genesee County and Troy, Montana. He was a board member of the Real Art Works Co-Op in Troy, Montana and the Genesee County Builders Association. He was an avid skier/racer and enjoyed golfing, bicycling and fishing.
Besides his wife Susan, Dave is survived by his son, Adam M. (Sarah) Johnson, sister, Jane (Don) Nemecek, brother, Barry (Ann) Johnson, sisters-in-law, Marilyn Knol and Janice Gustafson, brothers-in-law, Victor (Sandy) Munn and Rick (Diana May) Munn, nieces, Kelsey (Brandon) Hasso, Betsy (Ian) Harris, Deja (Keith Oberg) Munn and Jessica (Shawn) Miller-Edwards and his nephews, Ben (Dezi) Johnson, Paul Munn, Scot Nemecek, Todd Nemecek and Brice Peake. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Dave’s Life will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Michigan Parkinson’s Foundation, 30400 Telegraph Rd., Suite #150, Bingham Farms, MI 48025. Arrangements are being handled by the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home.
