David Lee Willson, age 88 of Boyne City passed away on March 27, 2019 at his home in Boyne City.
David was born on May 25, 1930 in Boyne City the son of Leo and Esther (Sanquist) Willson. He grew up and went to school in Boyne City prior to attending Barbering School in Detroit, MI. On November 24, 1950 he married Paygi L Brooks in Boyne City. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany for two years.
David owned and operated Dave’s Kozy Barber Shop in Boyne City for fifty years until he retired. Upon retiring Dave donated many items to the Flywheelers and the Boyne City Historical Museum. He was very active in the community and served as Eveline Township Supervisor and Accessor for many years. He was a member of the Boyne City Rotary Club, the Oddfellows and the Boyne City American Legion. Dave enjoyed gardening, polished stones/rocks, boating on Lake Charlevoix, traveling and loved animals. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Boyne City and served as an Elder, Deacon, Choir, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher.
David is survived by his wife Paygi (Brooks) Willson of sixty-eight years; two daughters Dava (Don) Maat and Cindy Willson; four grandchildren Dusty (Mary) Maat, Devon (Josh) Bernthal, Heidi Gapinski and Lisa (Dan) Thomas; five great-grandchildren Zachary Legato, the son of Dusty and Mary Sadie, Amelia and Isabelle the daughters of Devon and Josh and Emma Hull the daughter of Heidi.
He is preceded in death by his parents Leo and Esther; three sisters Anne, Ruth, and Marcia; and his two brothers Herb and Bob.
At his request David’s body was donated to the University of Michigan Medical School. A celebration of David’s life will be held at a later date.
