Dolores VanHoorne

Dolores VanHoorne, 79, of Cheboygan, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.

A lifelong resident of the area, Dolores was born December 31, 1937 in Cheboygan, the daughter of Carl and Lottie (Baker) Derhammer.  On May 4, 1956 in Cheboygan, she married Robert VanHoorne.  She owned and operated a daycare for many years. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She also enjoyed gardening, mushroom and berry picking, and loving her pets.  She was a lifelong member of The Fraternal order of Eagles. Dolores spent each day missing her husband Bob. 

Surviving are two daughters, Doreen Keli of Cascade, Wisconsin, and Dawn (David) Shively of Manton, and one son, Robert C. Van Hoorne of Cheboygan, 21 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, four sisters, Marie (Ed) Galbraith of Arizona, Bernice (Allan) Snyder, Avon Carmody, and Laurel (Bob) Callan, all of Cheboygan, four brothers, Carl Derhammer of Gaylord, Carman (Charleen) Derhammer of Cheboygan, Doug Derhammer of Carp Lake, and Robert Derhammer, also of Cheboygan, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert in 2015, a son in law, Roger Keli, a great granddaughter, Emma Porter, and two brothers, Don and Willis Derhammer.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home with the family greeting friends beginning at noon.

Pastor Dianne Myers will officiate, burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.
