Donald Allen Jones

Donald A. Jones, at age 88, passed away on April 2, 2018, at his home in Indian River, MI.

Don was born on February 25, 1930 in Detroit, MI, to Irving and Ruth Jones; he was reared in Indian River.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on active duty from 1947-1971.

On July 28, 1955, he married the love of his life, Carolyn (Sandy); shortly thereafter he adopted her three children.  After his retirement from the Navy in 1971, the couple, and their son David, settled in Franklin, NC.  In 1992, the couple moved to Indian River, MI, where they have resided ever since.

Don enjoyed working around his house, reading the Bible, and attending church.  He was a member of Northern Michigan Baptist Bible Church.

Don trusted in Jesus as his Savior in the spring of 1972.  Since his conversion, he served as a deacon and an adult Sunday school teacher in the churches he attended in North Carolina and Michigan. 

He is survived by three sons, Tommy F. Jones of Alanson, Clifford L. (Virginia) Jones of Indian River, and David I. (Rhonda) Jones of Lynchburg, VA, as well as a quantity of grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife Sandy, his daughter Melva Jean Sturm, and his sister Marcella Martin of Franklin, NC.

Services for Don will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the Northern Michigan Baptist Bible Church. Visitation will be held from 10am to 12pm and the funeral will be held at 12pm.
