Doretta Lee (Inman) Furstenberg

The world lost a warrior early Saturday, November 9, 2019, when Doretta “Doré” Lee Furstenberg, 51, of Harbor Springs, MI, ended her battle with breast cancer. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones.

Doré was born on May 1, 1968 in Saginaw, MI to Deloss and Nancy Inman. She grew up in Vanderbilt and Gaylord, MI and obtained a BA in Vocal Education from Western Michigan University. She married the love of her life, Karl Furstenberg, on April 29, 1989, and is survived by him and their four children—her four A’s: Amanda, Andrew, Austin, and Aaron—as well as her brother, Phil Inman, and sister, Nichole Welsh. 

Music brought her the greatest joy, second only to her family and her Savior. She loved singing with the First Presbyterian Church Choir, Northern Michigan Chorale, and the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra. For the last 13 years, Doré was the Musical Director for the Harbor Springs Public Schools and most recently served as the HS Community Schools and PAC Director. She graced the community stage in many productions, but her favorite was as Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast.

A celebration of Doré’s life will take place on Monday, November 18, held at one of her favorite places: the Harbor Springs Performing Arts Center. The memorial service will be officiated by Reverend Kip Murphy and will begin at 7pm, with a calling hour to visit with the family starting at 6pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to an education fund that will support her two youngest boys in their future education pursuits. Donations can be deposited at First Community Bank in The Doré Furstenberg Legacy Education Fund account.
