Dorothy E. Miles, 95 of Petoskey, died May 5, 2018 at her home with her daughter at her side.
Dorothy was born April 21, 1923, the daughter of Frank and Pearl (Clark) Gruler. She was a graduate of Petoskey High School.
On February 19, 1943, she married Bill Miles. Together, they spent many happy years until Bill's death in 2004.
Dorothy worked as an assistant manager of Delta's bookstore in Saginaw and later as the Manager of the bookstore at North Central Michigan College. She enjoyed knitting, reading and volunteer work. She volunteered in both the surgical waiting room and the hospitality house for the hospital in Petoskey. More than anything, Dorothy loved to socialize and have friends and family over for visits. She looked forward to her trips to the grocery store because she would always run into her friends there. She will be remembered as being a true lady - a class act.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Kathy Wascher of Petoskey; her son, Jim (Beverly) Miles of Southern Pines, N.C.; grandchildren, Tiffany Gonzalez, Cassie Miles, Nikki Miles, Brianne (August) Clark, Elyse (John) Danielson and Patrick Wascher; 7 great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William; daughter, Carol Granlund; sister, Katherine Worthen; and brothers, Albert and Frank Gruler.
There will be a visitation at Stone Funeral Home, Friday, May 11, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at the Sacramentine Monastery in Conway on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to McLaren Hospice. Over the course of Dorothy's time with Hospice, one nurse in particular, Sheryl Goodrich, showed such compassion and love for the Miles family - she went above and beyond the call of being a nurse, she was Dorothy's friend.
