Edna (Swadling) Fischer

Edna Fischer, 90 of Harbor Springs, died December 2, 2017 at Bay Bluffs Medical Care Facility.

Edna was born on April 21, 1927 in Petoskey, the daughter of Raymond and Clara (England) Swadling and was raised in Harbor Springs, graduating from Harbor Springs High School with the Class of 1945.

On January of 1946, Edna married Helmuth Fischer and the two made their home in Harbor Springs for a short time before moving to Cleveland, OH and then elsewhere around the country before returning to Harbor Springs in 1964.  Edna went to work in the Laundry Department at Little Traverse Hospital for over 10 years before going to work at Circuit Control, then later Big Boy as a Cook.  She later operated the Sunnyview Adult Foster Care Home.  Helmuth preceded Edna in death in 1996.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the Mary Martha Guild.  She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting, traveling in their motorhome, but her greatest joy was her family and having others around.  She was a loving mother and she always made her home warm and inviting, and it was the house that all the neighborhood kids hung out at.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Edna is survived by 5 children, Ed (Sylvia) Fischer of Harbor Springs, Art (Mary Beth) Fischer of Alanson, Linda (Jim) Zoulek of East Jordan, Chris (ED) Green of Charlevoix, and Jim (Beth) Fischer of Charlevoix; brother, Paul Swadling; sister, Shirley Swadling; and by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Helmuth; and 3 children, Barbara Fischer, Alice Fischer, and Janice Hall.

The family will receive friends at Zion Lutheran Church on Thursday, December 7th from 10-11am with a service celebrating her life following immediately at 11am.  Edna will be laid to rest at the Lakeview Cemetery in Harbor Springs.
