Edward Renkiewicz, Jr. Obituary

Edward Xavier Renkiewicz, Jr., 88, died August 10, 2019 at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey.

Edward was born on July 7, 1931, in Hamtramck, Michigan, the son of Edward and Sophia (Piekarski) Renkiewicz. He was one of 12 children and attended school at the North Bay School in Horton Bay. Edward moved to Chicago to continue his education in mechanics. For a few years, he worked in Hamtramck for General Motors until he returned to Northern Michigan, where he spent most of his life as a diesel mechanic. Edward was a hard worker. He spent most days, from sun up to sun down, working on trucks and different projects. When he would return home after 16 hour workdays, he would often go help a friend or neighbor on whatever project they asked him to help with. Edward was extremely generous with his time. There was never a project too small or too large, he would always lend a hand.

Throughout his life, Edward was committed to his faith. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier in Petoskey for many years and for the past 20 years, he attended St. Matthew's in Boyne City. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Edward is survived by his siblings, Rudolph Renkiewicz of Cleveland, Virginia, Bernadine (Matthew) McNeely of Brown Deer, Wisconsin, Doloresa Funk of Las Vegas, Nevada, Virginia (Ed) Gambrell of Charlevoix, Michigan, Mary (Les) Dieffenbach of Groveland, Florida, and Raymond Renkiewicz of East Jordan, Michigan; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Michael, Rick and Eugene Renkiewicz; and sisters, Elizabeth and Patricia Renkiewicz.

There will be a visitation at St. Matthew's Church in Boyne City on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. with a recitation of the Rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, at St. Matthew's in Boyne City, at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior to Mass. Father Dennis Stilwell will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Francis Cemetery in Petoskey.
