Fred W. Brandt

Fred W. Brandt, age 79, of Cheboygan passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 3, 2019.  He was born October 16, 1939 in Detroit, the son of Fred and Christine (LaForte) Brandt. On June 7, 1958 at St. Charles Catholic, Fred married Eileen LaHaie.

Fred was a businessman all his life and had owned and operated Brandt's Sports Center for the past 48 years. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Alverno Fire Department for 30 years, served as the Benton Township Supervisor/Assessor for 16 years, was a 21 year volunteer with the Cheboygan Salmon Tournament, served as the president of the Cheboygan Trailblazers Grooming Club and was a "gentleman farmer" at his 7 B's Ranch on N. Black River Rd. He was a member of St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus, Council #791 and the Cheboygan Eagles.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen, five children, Debra (Mark) Maczka, David (Phyllis) Brandt, Gerald (Merritt) Brandt, Bruce (Shelly) Brandt and Tammy (Pete) Dobrowolski, all of Cheboygan, His sister, Susan Brandt of Cheboygan, 12 grandchildren,10 great grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one step great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Donna Dee Pulford and Carol Klein.

Visitation will take place at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home on Friday, July 5 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. The funeral mass will take place at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church on Saturday, July 6 at 11:00 AM with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service. Rev. Duane Wachowiak will officiate and burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Hospice House of Cheboygan or the Cheboygan County Humane Society.
