Helen Coble Obituary

Helen L. Coble, 91, of Petoskey, died September 2, 2018 at the Pavilion Nursing Home in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Helen was born October 29, 1926, in Huntington Woods, Michigan, the daughter of Howard and Ethel Sluyter. She grew up in Hazel Park, Michigan and attended school at Hazel Park High School.

On May 19, 1946, she married the love of her life, Charles Coble in Ferndale, Michigan. They shared over 60 wonderful years of marriage. Charles was always fond of saying Helen was the best unpaid secretary he ever had. In the mid 70's Chuck and Helen bought a farm in Petoskey. They were the proprietors of "Glorie Be at Meadowview Farm" on Horton Bay Road, the store and gardens were a favorite spot for yearlong residents as well as visitors to Petoskey. In 1998 Chuck and Helen moved to North Carolina where Helen has resided after Chuck's death in 2006.

Helen was a member of the Petoskey United Methodist Church and a member of the order of the Eastern Star. One of Helen's favorite passages was: "Let me live in a house by the side of the road and be a friend to man,". Not everyone gets to live out their dreams, but Chuck and Helen lived theirs.

Helen is survived by her children, Joyce (Paul) Laursen of Clarkston, MI, Barbara (David) Williams of Charlotte, NC, and Charles Coble of Brighton, MI; also surviving are four grandchildren, Angela, Scott, Lauren and Kyle; and great grandchildren, Jillian, James and Nora.

Services will be at the Petoskey United Methodist Church on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Dr. James Mitchum will officiate. Internment will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
