September 14, 1942 ~ May 26, 2019 (age 76)

Harbor Springs resident Henry Charles Pfeifer III, known to most as Hank, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2019. He will be remembered as a man who loved his family, adored his grandchildren, and cared for everyone he met. He was an avid reader, passionate bird watcher, and world traveler. He enjoyed few things more than a spirited debate and a strong cup of coffee.

Hank was born on September 14, 1942, at New York Hospital in Manhattan.

He was the son of Henry Pfeifer Jr. and Audrey (Reynolds) Pfeifer. He grew up on Long Island, New York, where he attended Massapequa High School. Upon graduation in 1960, Hank enlisted in the United States Air Force. The Air Force sent him to Syracuse University to learn Russian, and then to various posts around the world as part of the country’s intelligence effort.

Hank met his wife, Pringle Bowman, during their employment with IBM. They were married August 29, 1970, in the church of St. Aloysius, New Canaan, Connecticut. They welcomed their son, Henry Charles Pfeifer IV, in September 1982.  In 1992, Hank retired as Program Manager at IBM and moved with his wife and son to Harbor Springs.

Hank is survived by his wife, Pringle, his son, Henry Charles Pfeifer IV and wife Susannah Pfeifer, granddaughters Charlotte and Florence Pfeifer, grandson Henry Charles Pfeifer V, his sister Suzie Colgan and her family, and his cousin Linda Gallagher and her family.
