Herman A. Cease, Jr., 76, of Harbor Springs passed away Friday, September 27, 2019, at his residence. He was born in Petoskey to Joyce (Moyer) and Herman A. Cease, Sr., both of Harbor Springs, who preceded him. He was raised in Harbor Springs, where he attended school, and was active in FFA. He married his soulmate and companion of 55 years, Jeanne A. (Young) Cease, who survives him. Together they lived in Michigan, Ohio, Montana, Illinois, and Pennsylvania before returning to Harbor Springs. They raised three children: Teresa (who also preceded him) (John Woodward), Tina (Stephen Shook), and Herman P. (Muriel Feeney), all of Illinois. They have been blessed with seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Herman’s loving sister Sylvia (Ed Fischer) along with their family, also of Harbor Springs, survive him. He is also survived by numerous extended family members.
After graduating from Michigan State University as an engineer, Herman enjoyed a long career designing and testing farm equipment for Massey Ferguson, Big Bud, Ellenburg Manufacturing, Hendrickson, Case International, and Ford New Holland, and earned patents for some of his designs. Known as a man who could say a lot in just a few words, he enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, playing cards, and visiting with family.
Following a graveside ceremony at Lakeview Cemetery, Friday October 4th at 3 p.m., the family will receive guests at their home.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to his many kind caregivers and suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials to Parkinson’s or cancer research or the EMS, to whom we are grateful.
Arrangements are in the care of Stone Funeral Home, Inc.
