J. Frank "Red" Wilson, Jr.

J. Frank “Red” Wilson, Jr., 90 of Harbor Springs, Michigan passed away on January 23, 2020 in Harbor Springs. 

Son of J. Frank Wilson, Sr. and Gladys (Watters) Wilson, Red was born in Rockwood, Tennessee, on August 2, 1929. He grew up in Pontiac, Michigan where he attended Pontiac High School. 

On October 19, 1957 he married the love of his life, Ann Tierney in Orchard Lake, Michigan. 

Red served in the US Army in the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina during the Korean War. 

Golf was one of Red’s greatest passions. If he was on the course, he was happy. He worked as the Head Golf Professional and General Manager at Wequetonsing Golf Club for 40 years. Red helped start the Northern Michigan Chapter of the Michigan PGA and ran the HS Community Schools golf program in Harbor Springs for 20 years. Red was also instrumental in the inception of the Harbor Springs High School boy’s golf team in the 1970’s.

Red is survived by his three children, Robert (Kathi Tippett) Wilson, Carolyn Wilson and John (Shannon) Wilson; three grandchildren, Brittany Wilson, Christine Wilson and Taylore Wilson; three great grandchildren, Michael Henk, Matthew Henk, and Kinley Curtis; and by two siblings Mary Lou Blanchard and Gerry Wilson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ann; and many brothers. 

There will be a memorial Mass at Holy Childhood of Jesus Catholic Church in Harbor Springs on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with a one-hour visitation prior to the service. Father James Bearss will officiate. 

In lieu of flowers, the Wilson family suggests memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Harbor Springs High School Golf Programs, PO Box 362, Harbor Springs, MI 49740.
