Jeannette E. (Jackson) Best

Jeannette (Jan) Best passed away peacefully on December 23, 2019 at Bay Bluffs in Harbor Springs. She was 96 years old.

At two years old, her family moved to Windsor, Ontario, Canada, where she lived and went to school and learned to play piano. She moved to Detroit in 1957 eventually moving to the Petoskey area with her husband, Val Best where they opened Stroh’s Ice Cream Parlor.

Music was Jan’s life and she was still playing piano at Bay Bluffs.

She was known for her lack of patience, not holding back her opinion and a knack for telling it like it is.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Val Best, her son, Scott Chilver and her grandson, D’.Arcy Goodfellow. She is survived by daughters Carol (Rob) Goodfellow & Mary-Beth (Art) Fischer, sister MaryLou Stearns, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

A Memorial service will be on June 19, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Petoskey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Jan’s name.
