John Lee Hoar

John Lee Hoar, age 69, of Levering passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at the Hospice House in Cheboygan. He was born April 7, 1950 in Cheboygan, the son of Alvie and Jean (Marshall) Hoar of Levering.

            In 1951 they moved to grand rapids where John attended Bodwin Heights elementary school through 1st grade. When his grandfather Hoar died, they moved back Alvie’s family farm near levering where John attended the Levering school through the 6th grade. He then went to Pellston Highschool and graduated in 1968.

            After graduation John worked at William’s Standard Gas and Grocery in Levering, then Jordan’s Marina of carp lake and finally Wickes Lumber until an accident in 1980 disabled him.

            John enjoyed all types of fishing, especially out of a boat. He also enjoyed the shooting sports and was an avid reader subscribing to several magazines and newspapers reading them from cover to cover.

            Anyone who new John would remember his winning smile and easy-going nature. He will be missed by many.

            John is survived by his brother Ron of Levering and many cousins with special mention of Jeanie, Liz and Karen who always called or came to visit and help out when they could. He was preceded in death by his parents.

            Per-John’s wishes cremation will be taking place and no services will be held at this time. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the friendship center in Petoskey and The Hospice House in Cheboygan where memorial contributions may be directed if desired.  Arrangement are being handled at the Nordman Christian Funeral Home.
