John “Capt. Jack” David McLeod, Jr., age 76 of Boyne City passed quietly Monday, October 15, 2018 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
Jack was born December 2, 1941 in Detroit the son of John David McLeod, Sr. and Gladys Marie Lamb. He grew up in Huntington Woods, MI and attended school at Berkley High School and later went on to study at Lawrence Institute of Technology. On November 2, 1963 he married Marlaine Ann Rock in Berkley, MI. (Jack won her over with an electric Blue 55 Ford Sunliner Convertible.)
Jack started his career as a Journeymen Wood Model Maker and then went on to be the owner and operator of the Boyne Avenue Greenhouse for over thirty years. After retiring from the greenhouse Jack went to work for the Boyne City Marina and Classic Instruments. He enjoyed keeping busy and enjoyed boating, wood working, hunting, fishing and reading. Jack was very active in the community and was a member of the Boyne City Rotary, Chamber, Yacht Club, Planning Commission, 4th Of July Committee and the Capt. Bob’s Boating Club.
Jack is survived by his wife Marlaine “Marty”; children Amber (Jim) Johnson, John (Josette Lory) McLeod and Jason McLeod; grandchildren Jesse (Sam) Moore, Matthew Moore, Nikkie (Michael) West, Randy (Ian) West and Alison and Brianne Burnell; one great granddaughter Juniper West-Murphy, sister Barbara (David) and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents John, Sr. and Gladys McLeod, sister Judy Powell.
A celebration of life will be held 2:00 to 4:00 PM Saturday, November 10th at the Boyne City Hall.
