John "Jack" Schmoldt Obituary

John "Jack" Schmoldt, lifelong Petoskey resident passed away November 5, 2019 at Pineview Cottage in Harbor Springs at the age of 85.

Jack was born March 26, 1934 in Harbor Springs to John and Carrie (Taylor) Schmoldt.  He grew up in Petoskey and was a graduate of Petoskey High School.  Following graduation Jack entered service with the United States Army, serving honorably for two years.  Jack returned to Petoskey after his service and worked as a service station attendant and as an apprentice electrician with Cook Electric.  Most will remember Jack from his days with Michigan Bakery and Shafer Bread Company where he worked as a driver/salesman for nearly three decades.  Following his retirement golf became a true passion.  He spent most of his spring, summer and fall days at the Bayview Country Club and rarely missed a chance to be out on the course with his buddies.  He also enjoyed bowling and watching football and baseball.

The true love of Jack's life was his wife and best friend Jeanette (Wilhelm).  The two were married on November 25, 1961.  Together they raised four children and were also blessed with nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.  Sadly Jeanette preceded Jack in death on August 18, 2010, her loss left a void in his life that was impossible to fill.  He will be best remembered as a wonderful husband, dad and grandpa, who loved his family with his entire heart.  To his friends and to those he came into contact with professionally he will be remembered for his sense of humor and for the respect and kindness he showed to everyone with whom he came into contact daily.  He was loved and will truly be missed.

Surviving Jack are his children, John Schmoldt (Barb Comstock) of Manitowoc, WI., Carol (Bart) Francis of Petoskey, Rick (Melissa) Schmoldt of Alanson, and Linda (Kerry) Cole of Petoskey; his grandchildren, Josh (Kristina) Schmoldt, Nick Schmoldt, Evan Schmoldt, Casey Francis, Brianne (Kyle) Stokes, Annie (Jake) Cutshall, Kayla Cole and Jenna Cole and great grandchildren, Rylee, Brooklyn and Lucas Stokes.  Also surviving Jack are his sisters-in-law, Kathy Schmoldt, Virginia Mieler, Leona Elya and Eleanor Wilhelm.  Including Jeanette, Jack was also preceded in death by his brother Robert and by his grandson Tyler Cole.

Jack's life will be remembered and celebrated during a Funeral Mass that is planned for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 9th at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.  Visitation will begin in the church gathering space at 10:00 a.m. The Mass will be led by Fr. Greg McCallum.  Jack will be laid to rest next to his wife Jeanette at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.

Those wishing to remember Jack through a charitable contribution are asked by his family to consider Brother Dan's Food Pantry.
