Joseph Ivinskas, 91, of Burt Lake, passed away on September 5, 2018 at McLaren Northern Hospital in Petoskey. Joseph was born March 19, 1927 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Andrew and Anna (Brazinskas) Ivinskas. He grew up in Euclid, Ohio and Detroit, Michigan and attended Detroit Western High School, graduating in 1945. Joseph proudly served our country as a Sergeant in the US Army in Iceland during WWII. Joseph graduated from Lincoln Chiropractic College in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was employed by General Motors for 35 years.
Joseph married Virginia Turowski in 1950. He and Virginia raised their family in Dearborn and retired on Burt Lake. Joseph was a member of the Inland Lakes Snowmobile Club, the Burt Lake Preservation Association, the Indian River Knights of Columbus, the F.O.E. and past president of the Indian River Sportsmen’s Club. Joseph enjoyed boating, fishing, playing euchre and spending time with his family. He was a devoted member of the Cross in the Woods Catholic Church in Indian River.
Joseph is survived by his children Julie (John) Konja, Gail (Larry) Odle, Bob (Ann) Ivinskas, Gary Ivinskas and David Ivinskas, and companion Beverly Southwell. Also surviving are grandchildren Stephen (Amy) Konja, Lauren (Craig) Hall, Paul and Julia Ivinskas, great grandchildren Chloe and Ava Konja and sister Jeanne Herrmann, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by Virginia, his wife of 60 years.
Services for Joseph will be held at the Cross of the Woods Catholic Church on Saturday, September 8th. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 am and the funeral will begin at 11:00 am. A luncheon and burial will follow.
