LaRoy J. "Bud" Hill

La Roy J. “Bud” Hill, age 90, of St Ignace passed away Monday, August 19, 2019 at Medilodge in Cheboygan MI surrounded by family. He was born September 28 1928 in Clintonville, WI, the son of Eldred and Estelle Hill. On January 22, 1950 he married his beloved wife of nearly 70 years Marion Range who preceded him in death on June 18, 2019.

Bud moved his family to St Ignace in 1955 where he worked for American Bridge. Later he worked for Gotham Oil Co (Pure Oil) and Carlson Oil Co (Union 76) as manager of the St. Ignace Truck Stop.

In 1970 he obtained his private pilot’s license and a Cessna 150, often flying for the Coast Guard Auxiliary for which he was a member of.

After retiring Bud enjoyed many hobbies. His passion was competition Heavy Varmint Shooting and reloading his own ammo. He was an excellent marksman and he and his “Purple Passion” won many awards. He was a member of the St. Ignace Area Shooters Association. He also enjoyed woodworking, spending many hours at his scroll saw cutting out intricate patterns for plaques, tables and wooden boxes.

Bud is survived by his daughter, Becky (Tom) Glashaw, three sisters, Betty Lou (Paul), Aggie (Alan), and Barbie (Bob), two brothers Edd and Joe, sisters-in-law, Janet, Jeanette, Esther and Nancy (Ron), brothers-in-law, Duane (Mary) and Eugene, special caregivers, Kelly, Lyn and Barbie, and his fur babies Zookie and Sophie. He was preceded in death by his sons Bobby and Anthony, grandsons, Christopher and Robbie, sisters-in-law, Jean and Barb and his brothers-in-law, Pete, Laverne, Ernie, Wilbur, Bill, and Bernard.

At his request cremation has taken place. A family service will be held in the spring. Arrangements are being handled by the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home.
