Laura Celia Weingartz, 91, died peacefully at home with family by her side, on October 12, 2019.
Laura was born on November 12, 1928, to Zygmont and Lottie Tomaszewski. She spent much of her youth in the Detroit area and was a graduate of the 1947 class from St. Augustine in Richmond/Lennox, Michigan.
On September 9, 1950, Laura married the love of her life, Vincent Weingartz at St. Augustine in Richmond, Michigan. They made their home in Utica/Shelby Township and started a family. Laura was a homemaker, she raised five sons and two daughters. She was also an artist. She was a master china painter, and made beautiful stained glass pieces, as well as water color and oil paintings. Laura used her many talents to give. She was endlessly giving. She would make quilts and sew clothing and made many small teddy bears to send to children in Africa. She contributed to countless charities and was always looking for a way to help others in need.
After many happy years in the Shelby Township area, Laura and Vince retired to Canadian Lakes. Together, they worked as a team to build their dream home from the ground up. After 22 years in Canadian Lakes, they decided to move closer to their children, and made a final move to Petoskey in 2003. Laura and Vince became members of St. Frances Xavier Church in Petoskey.
