LeRoy "Butch" Furgeson, 73

Lifelong area resident LeRoy R. Furgeson, known affectionately by his family and many friends as "Butch", passed from this life on Friday, December 29th, 2017 at his home in Resort Township.

Butch was born in Petoskey on March 31, 1944 to LeRoy R. and Anna L. (Beyer) Furgeson.  He was a graduate of Petoskey High School, Class of 1962.  He entered service with the Michigan National Guard on November 13, 1965 and served with an armored unit as a tank commander until November 12, 1971. 

Butch married Nancy J. Broman on November 10, 1967 in Petoskey, together they shared 50 wonderful years.  Butch entered the plumbing trade where he was well liked and respected for his expertise and honesty.  He was a proud and active member of the Petoskey Eagles from more than 46 years. In 2009 he was awarded the status of, "Golden Eagle"; he served the organization in every capacity except treasurer and was named president six times and served as a trustee for more than eighteen years.  He enjoyed being outdoors and always kept a garden, he also enjoyed camping and collecting antique gas cans, lanterns and tractors. 

Butch is survived by his loving wife Nancy and by his son Jeffrey (Ronald Salander) Furgeson.  He is also survived by his mother-in-law June Broman and by his brothers Ronald (Maria) Furgeson, Robert (Pat Harris) Furgeson, Richard (Brenda) Furgeson, Randy (Melissa Wormell) Furgeson, sisters-in-law Jackie Furgeson, Sandy Broman and Linda (Mike) Rautio and brother-in-law David (Donna) Broman, as well as many special nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother Roger Furgeson. 

No public services are planned, in keeping with Butch's wishes. 

He was loved, and he will be dearly missed.
