Margaret Lasater (82) passed away peacefully at Grandvue Medical Care Facility after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Margaret was born January 22, 1937 in Detroit, MI. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Lillian Hawley and grew up in Wayne, MI. She graduated from MSU with a master’s degree in 1962. She worked for the school system in Wayne before getting married to George Lasater in 1963 when they decided to make the move up to Boyne City. She worked as a speech therapist for the school system before starting a 28 year career as director with NW Michigan Hospice and retiring in 2010. She was an active member in the community, as a member of Eta Nu, serving on various boards and taking part in organizing and volunteering on fundraising events. Besides being involved in her community Margaret loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a energetic and outgoing woman who enjoyed life and made everyone around her feel special. She was truly loved and will be deeply missed.
Margaret is survived by three children, Amii Adams (John), Thomas Lasater (Tracy Conti), and George Lasater (Melissa). She was adored by her grandchildren, Nikolas, Jilian, and Luke all of whom loved to come visit Nana. Margaret is also survived by her sister Marylou.
She is preceded in death by her two brothers Tommy and Jamie.
The family would like to extend appreciation to the staff of Grandvue for their care and kindness to Margaret. In addition, gratitude is extended to the ladies who provided in home care so Margaret was able to stay in her home longer. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Charlevoix County Humane Society.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 5:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, November 14th at Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City.
