Marion DuBrie Stetson, 80

Marion DuBrie Stetson passed away on August 18, 2019 suddenly in the comfort of her home on Walloon Lake, Michigan of natural causes.

She was an active sports enthusiast with a gregarious personality. 

Marion was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on September 14, 1938 to Frederick Wilson and Marion Jasmine Dettlinger (DuBrie).

Marion graduated from Grosse Pointe High in 1957, attended Stephens College for 2 years prior to graduating from University of Michigan with a BA in Education. She spent the majority of her teaching career in the Detroit Public School System, finishing up as the Physical Education  Director at the Grosse Pointe Academy doing what she loved best considering her solid lifelong athletic abilities.

Marion met William Allan Stetson through mutual sailing friends. After a short courtship they were engaged at Nubs Nob Ski Resort in Harbor springs. Michigan. They were married on April 27, 1963 and resided in Grosse Pointe, Michigan until Bill's retirement in 1986.

She was always community minded and spent countless hours as her daughters basketball, volleyball and softball coach as well as their Brownie and Girl Scout leader.

During their retirement, Marion was extremely active in many clubs and athletics. She was a voracious reader and a member of various book clubs. She was involved with Christ Child, Lunch Bunch, Beautiful Boyne Belles, local garden and bridge clubs as well as her sorority, Eta Nu. She enjoyed golfing, fishing, skiing, tennis and badminton. Her love for sailing culminated in a Bayview-Mackinac Race victory in 1985.

Marion and Bill were members of the Bayview Yacht Club in Detroit, Michigan, Walloon Lake Country Club, Petoskey Bay View Country Club as well as Clinton River Ski Club and Boyne City Yacht Club. Her competiveness and love of sports and games were showcased through these many organizations.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Bill. Marion is survived by her husband of 56 years, William Allan Stetson, daughter Katherine MacConnachie (Daniel), their daughters Samantha and Madelyn who reside in Grosse Pointe, Michigan and Susan Lee (Michael) and their son Lucas of Aspen, Colorado.

Friends and family will miss her ever present smile and bubbly personality.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, September 1st from 1-4pm at the family's home on Walloon Lake. Pastor Ryan Donahoe of First Presbyterian Church of Petoskey will perform a short ceremony lakeside at 1:30pm. They ask attendees to wear cheerful attire with an emphasis on her favorite color blue.
