Martha Johnson Obituary

Martha L.. Johnson, 95, of Indian River, Passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon November 6, 2019 while in her winter residence apartment at Brookdale Trillium Crossing senior living facility in Columbus, Ohio. Martha (also known as "Marlou" by family and friends) was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 5, 1924 , she was the daughter of the late William Nitz and Marie (Bernhardt) Nitz. Marlou married Robert Johnson on September 30, 1950.  She was preceded in death by brothers William Charles Nitz Jr. of DeKalb, IL and Charles Henry Nitz of Munster, IN. Surviving is her daughter Britta F. Campton of Dublin, OH and her two close kindred spirits and cousins from Washington State Carla and Karen.                                     

Marlou attended high school in Chicago IL and worked for the Social Security Administration in Auburn Indiana for more than 15 years where she retired.

She loved preparing special meals for guests and tending to her flower gardens. Marlou also enjoyed antiquing and board games which brought out her competitive nature. Marlou loved living on Mullett Lake in Indian River, Michigan enjoying many lake activities for over 30 years. She was a member of the Indian River United Methodist Church where she was involved in the Women's Auxiliary. Her passion for animals found her supporting animal rescue efforts including volunteering for the Northern Michigan Animal Rescue network.

The funeral service will take place on Friday, November 15, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Indian River United Methodist Church with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will immediately follow the service and burial at Oakhill Cemetery will take place following the luncheon.
