Martin Birk Obituary

Martin P. Birk, 55 of Carp Lake, MI passed away on September 1, 2018 at his home.

Martin was born on May 10, 1963 in Escanaba, MI the son of Duane Birk and Laurel (Mariin) Birk. He grew up in Portage and Vicksburg, MI, graduating from Vicksburg High School. In high school he excelled at football and wrestling. After graduation, Martin briefly attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College and ITT Technical College in Grand Rapids, but decided that he would rather work in construction. Martin enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cribbage, watching the Green Bay Packers and cooking fish and venison for relatives and friends. He was always happy to land or clean a fish for anyone who needed help. 

Martin is survived by his parents Duane and Laurel Birk, siblings Lana (Dennis) Qualey and Todd Birk. He was preceded in death by his brother Richard Birk and his grandparents.

Services for Martin will be held September 10th at 1pm at the United Methodist Church of Trenary, MI. Officiating will be David Wallis of the Church of the Straits in Mackinaw City, MI and Sandra Kolder of the United Methodist Church of Trenary. Burial will follow in the Mathias Township Cemetery in Trenary. A lunch will be served following the service.
