Mary Padgett Obituary

Mary B. Padgett, 79 of Petoskey, died May 15, 2018 at the Hiland Cottage in Petoskey.

Mary was born on April 19, 1939 in Burt Lake, Michigan, the daughter of Edward and Onamay (Welch) McMichael and attended Inland Lakes Schools in Indian River.

On September 21, 1959, Mary married the love of her life, Robert Padgett.  The two made their home in Walloon Lake Village until a tragic fire claimed their home, then they moved to Petoskey where they resided until recently.   Robert preceded Mary in death in November of 2017 after 58 years of marriage.

Mary loved to cook, bake, sew, knit, and crochet and would make mittens and blankets which she would donate to the Nehemiah House in Petoskey.   She was a mother to many and would take anyone in that needed a place to stay.  She loved her family cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Mary is survived by 3 children, Sarah (Roger) Hall of Petoskey, Louise (Donnell) Raspberry of Petoskey, and Roberta (John) Ball of Levering; 5 grandchildren, Janet (Dave) Firestein of Boyne City, Kevin (Andrea) Hall of Petoskey, Tammy Walter of Petoskey, Jamie (Roger “Bill”) Burmeister of Shelby, and Jeremy (Ashley) Hall of Afton; 8 great grandchildren, Chad Allen Hall, Amanda Marie Hall, Kylie Ann Hall, Kaitlynn Walter, Hannah Walter, Bryon Burmeister, William “Clay” Burmeister, and Charles Nelson Hall; and by a brother, Elwood (Melody) McMichael.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Padgett; a brother, Roy McMichael, and by a sister, Xzoa (McMichael) Masta.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 18th from 12pm (Noon)-1pm at the Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey.  A funeral service celebrating Mary’s life will be held on Friday, May 18th at 1pm at the funeral home.
