Mary Margaret (Roy-McLernon) Randall Veen, age 78, of Cheboygan passed away October 1, 2018 at her home. She was born November 30, 1939 in Port Huron.
Mary entered the Adrian Dominican Order after graduating from O.L. Mercy High School. She had an extensive teaching career, retiring in 2003 to Cheboygan with her new husband, Ward Veen. Mary continued teaching part time at Bishop Baraga School until 2017. She was very active at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church and enjoyed her volunteer work at the St. Thomas Food Pantry and as the Chaplain for the Eagles Auxiliary.
Mary was the loving mother of Kelley Anne Cashion, step-mother of David Veen and Diane Veen-Price, sister of George P. (Carol) Roy, Carol (Tom) Saunders, Theresa Swift, Karen (Peter) Tambornini and Phillip Jingozian, grandmother to Dylan Doyle, Alexis Cashion and Gary (Maria) Veen and great grandmother to Dayton Doyle. She had many nieces, nephews, friends, grandchildren and great grandchildren by her marriage to Ward.
Mary was preceded in death by the love of her life, Ward Walter Veen in 2012, her parents, George and Lois Roy and Malcom and Mary Jingozian, her foster parents, Ivan and Agnes McLernon and Anna Swift and a brother, Michael Swift.
A memorial mass will take place at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church on Saturday, October 6 at 11:00 AM with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the mass. The Rev. Duane Wachowiak will officiate. In lieu of flowers, Mary’s wishes are that backpacks filled with school supplies be donated to the local schools. Any monetary contributions may be directed to Bishop Baraga School or the Adrian Dominican Sisters.
