Melvina “Babe” Friday, 89, of Cheboygan, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Hospice House in Cheboygan.

A lifelong resident of the area, Melvina was born March 20, 1928 in Cheboygan, the daughter of Simon and Celia (Ponczek) Stachon.  On September 6, 1947 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Riggsvlle, she married William L. Friday.  She was employed from 1966-1990 by the Cheboygan Public Schools as a cook.  She also cooked for many years for several families in Mullett Lake Village.  In addition to cooking, she enjoyed bingo, playing cards, and jigsaw puzzles, and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Surviving is her son, William, (Kathy) Friday of Cookeville, Tennessee, a son in law, Peter Kwiatkowski of Cheboygan, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William in 1995, a daughter, Nancy in 2011, a brother, Ted Stachon, and two sisters, Jenny Socolovitch, and Mary Gouine.

A memorial mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at noon, with the family greeting friends beginning at 11:00am, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Riggsville.  Rev. James Gardiner will officiate, burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, with a luncheon following at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Brook Retirement Community in Cheboygan, Hospice House of Cheboygan, or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
