Nancy A. Campbell, 88, of Mackinaw City, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Hospice House in Cheboygan.
Nancy was born December 11, 1930 in Charlevoix, the daughter of Elton and Genevieve (Weber) Dagwell. She was a 1948 graduate of Mackinaw City High School, and a 1952 graduate of Central Michigan University. She married Richard A. Campbell in 1952 in Mackinaw City. Nancy taught school in Farmington, and later for 30 years in Mackinaw City, retiring in 1990. She was instrumental in aiding the establishment of the Mackinaw Area Public Library, and served as the president of the library board for many years. She also co-authored the book “Memories of Mackinaw”. Nancy was an active member and served in various offices of the Mackinaw Women’s Club, the Mackinaw Garden Club, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Mackinaw Associates, and the P.T.A. She was also a member of several state and national historic societies, and served on the Mackinaw City Planning Commission for 23 years.
Surviving is her husband, Richard, two sons, Eric Campbell of Mackinaw City, and Steven (Debbie) Campbell of Tucson, Arizona, and two grandchildren, Shannon Marie (Ernie) Lopez of Tucson, Arizona, and Eric Brian Campbell of Boise, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 1:00pm, with the family greeting friends beginning at 12:15pm, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Mackinaw City.
Nancy’s family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Mackinaw Women’s Club, or the Mackinaw City Public Library.
