Norma Jean Payne, age 92, of Cheboygan and formerly of Flint, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019 at McLaren Hospital in Petoskey. She was born July 28, 1926 in Flint, the daughter of Ernest and Margaret (Henderson) Wilde, Sr. On September 16, 1946 in Flint, Norma married Robert H. Payne who preceded her in death in 1996.
Norma was a devoted member of the Mackinaw City Bible Church as well as the Flint Baptist Temple where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and was active in the nursing home ministry and the Christian Women’s Club.
Survivors include her four children, Vicki (R.J.) Edmonds of Barryton, MI, Michael (Rita) Payne of Rose City, MI, Bruce Payne of Great Falls, MT and Ann Marsh of Cheboygan, 12 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Besides her husband Robert, Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Robert S. Payne, her brother, Ernest Wilde, Jr. and five grandchildren, Nathaniel, Elizabeth, Renee, Scott and Jeremy.
A memorial service will take place at the Mackinaw City Bible Church on Friday, May 17 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Reid Nelson officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Mackinaw City Bible Church. Arrangements are being handled by the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home.
