Ronald "Odemin Gatougeshik Waymegwance" Wemigwase, 70 of Wolverine walked on February 18, 2019 at his home.
Ron was born on July 28, 1948 in Harbor Springs, MI the son of Richard Wemigwase and Evelyn (Chingwa) Wemigwase. He grew up in Indian Town in Harbor Springs and attended school at Harbor Springs High School. On August 22, 2008 he married Lisa Kaye in the Tribal Court in Harbor Springs. Ron proudly served his country for two years in the Marines during the Vietnam War. He was also proud of his Tribe and was a part of the Northern Michigan Ottawa Association's fight for the successful reaffirmation of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians. He was an organizer of the original Elder's Council in the 1980's. He was also the first tribal chairman of the LTBB of Odawa Indians. Ron liked meeting new people of all races, colors, and creeds; he believed in humanity. He was an outspoken father of three sons who he loved and supported unconditionally. Ron loved family picnics and spending time with loved ones. He enjoyed telling stories whether it was about the Odawa Tribe's history or his fond memories of Birchwood Farms back in the 1980's. Ron previously lived in West Virginia, Colorado, Hawaii, and Oregon.
Ron is survived by his wife Lisa Kaye, sons Joshua Wemigwase (35), Benjamin Wemigwase (32), and Andrew Wemigwase (24), brothers Richard Wemigwase and Roger Wemigwase, and sisters Mary Gasco and Christine Wemigwase.
