Patrick Carl Hershey, 70 of Conway, Michigan, died June 17, 2018.
Pat was born in Dayton, Ohio, on July 2, 1947, to Lloyd and Elizabeth (Reynolds) Hershey. He attended Fairview High School, University of Dayton and Wright State University.
Pat worked as a 7th and 8th grade science teacher, athletic director and coach at Ferguson Junior High in Beavercreek, Ohio. Pat married Kathryn Wright in June of 1971 at Glen Helen Park in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Both Pat and Kathryn will be remembered by generations of kids of Ferguson Junior High and Cline Elementary for their devotion to their students and passion for teaching.
Pat loved northern Michigan from a young age when his family used to vacation on Walloon Lake. Over the past 11 years, he has lived on Walloon Lake and Crooked Lake with his partner Diane Clark. Together, Pat and Diane loved going out on the boat, entertaining guests with some of Pat's delicious home cooked meals and hosting euchre tournaments. Pat was an avid golfer and was always busy with a creative project. He was skilled in the art of stained glass and wood working. Pat was a member of the Crooked Lake Yacht Club. His family and friends will remember Pat for his sense of humor and generosity.
Pat is survived by his significant other, Diane Clark of Conway; daughter, Erin (Eric) Barhorst of Lebanon, Ohio; grandson, Carl Matthew Barhorst; brother, Mike (Lydia) Hershey of Petoskey; nieces, Michele (Mark) McConnell and Renee (Jeromie) Marshall; and great nieces, Drew and Devin. Pat is preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Hershey; parents; and sister, Sue Rolfe.
In memory of Pat's beloved dogs, Hershey, Beau, Oscar, Butterscotch and Willy Stubbs, memorial donations are asked to be directed to the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society and/or the McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital for the extraordinary care Pat received.
