Patrick Wagner

Patrick Doyle “Pard” Wagner, born Patrick Doyle Marsh, 75, of Cheboygan, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019.  He died in his home in the care of his family and hospice after and 18 year battle with cancer.

Patrick was born October 31, 1943 in Cheboygan, Michigan.  He was the eight surviving child of nine children born to Earl and Marguerite (Desy) Marsh.  His twin brother, Stephen Doyle Marsh died three days following their birth.

Pat attended public school in Mackinaw City, graduating is 1961.  Following graduation, he completed heavy equipment training in California.  He then worked two years in Detroit, two years on the pump storage project in Ludington, and 31 years for Durocher Dock and Dredge as a crane operator.  He retired early in 2002 at the onset of his first of five bouts with cancer.

Pat was an avid reader and NASCAR fan.  He enjoyed hunting in his early years, and after retirement he loved taking care of his lawn and garden at his Victorian era home on Duncan Bay.  Pat also enjoyed cooking for family and friends.

On July 16, 1966 in Waterford, Michigan, he married Shay Marx.  Shay preceded him in death on November 30, 2004.

Pat is survived by his son, Steven Lloyd (Krista) Wagner, grandchildren Shaylee, Steven Jr., Jesse and Katie, two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by one sister, Blanch (Gordon) Sheldon of Cheboygan, and one brother, John (Georgia) of Marshall, Michigan.  He was preceded in death by brothers Charles, James, and Raymond, and sisters Marguerite McPeak and Ann Wehner.

Pat was very moved by the young children with cancer that he saw at the Cleveland Clinic. 

He was an avid supporter of the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, it was his wish that any donations in his memory be sent to St. Jude’s to help young cancer patients.

A celebration of Patrick’s life will be held on Saturday, July 20th, 2019 from 2pm-6pm at 1063 Duncan Shore’s Drive, Cheboygan, Michigan.
