Richard A. Lent died on May 17, 2017 at age 85 from complications of a lung disease.   A memorial service is planned for 11:00 a.m.  Friday, August 4, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church of Harbor Springs.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. 

Dick was born to Chauncey and Emma (Smiley) Lent on April 15, 1932 in Herrick Township, PA. He attended Wyalusing Valley Joint High School and Pennsylvania State University where he obtained a BA with a major in accounting and a minor in economics in 1954.

In 1955, he married Jane Hazel Nicely. Dick served in the USAF as a pilot and ground control officer for three years ending in late 1957 obtaining the rank of captain in the USAF Reserves before he was discharged from the reserves in 1962. 

Following military service Dick worked for the international accounting firm of Arthur Young & Company in that firm’s offices in Pittsburgh, Detroit, New York and Chicago. He became a partner in Arthur Young & Company in 1969 and served as Director of Accounting and Auditing of the Midwest Region from 1977 through 1985 when he retired.

In 1980 Dick received an Alumni Achievement Award from Pennsylvania State University. Following retirement Dick and Jane moved to Harbor Springs, Michigan, where they had purchased a cottage in 1971. During his retirement years, Dick became active in various non-profit organizations including The Little Traverse Conservancy, Tip of The Mitt Watershed Council, Northern Michigan Hospital, Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation, Kiwanis Club of Harbor Springs, Harbor Area Housing, Perry Farm Village, Crooked Tree Arts Council and The First Presbyterian Church of Harbor Springs.  He also volunteered at McLaren Northern Michigan in the Hospitality House and in ambulatory surgery - post op area. He was one of the Founding Directors of The Bank of Northern Michigan. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Robert Smiley Lent of State College, PA.  His wife Jane died in December of this year.   Dick is survived by his son Richard Alex Lent from Concord, N.H. , his daughter Ann Kathleen Lent from Keene, N.H. , his granddaughter Emma Jean Breslend of Keene, N.H. and his sister Marcia Allis of Elmira, New York.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to any of the nonprofit organizations mentioned above.
