Richard LuHellier, 76 of Cross Village, died April, 14, 2018 surrounded by his family and friends at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital.
On November 2, 1963 he married the love of his life, Sandy Fox and together raised their children in Cross Village.
Richard worked hard his entire life. It began alongside his father and his Excavating business. In 1983 he started LuHellier Excavating and had a successful run until Dr’s advised retirement in 1996. However, he was ALWAYS working on a project, looking for something to buy or sell or “Pulling handles”. His greatest pleasure was driving his cars – Fast! Richard could make a friend anywhere. He will be deeply missed by his friends at the Round Table at the Cross Village General Store and by all of his special “Sweethearts” and buddies. No matter where his health took him, he rallied. Just picture Richard running wheelchair races while in the hospital. That is how we would all like to be remembered; loving, funny, kind and generous, just like Richard.
Richard is survived by his wife, Sandy; daughters, Nancy and Chris; grandsons, Braeden Bauman and Matthew LuHellier; sister, L-Vonna; brother, Russell; brother-in-law, David Fox; sister-in-law, Terrie Fox; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Marciel; step-mother, Hazel; brother Buck sister, Shirley; mother-in-law, Joyce Fox; brother-in-law Darrel Fox and Sister-in-Law Joyce Storm.
Richard’s Catholic faith was important to him and he was an active member in the church his entire life. There will be a Memorial Mass Saturday, April 21 at 11 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Cross Village with visitation beginning at 10 prior to the service. Father Norbert Landreville will officiate.
In lieu of flowers a donation to Richard’s wife, Sandy to help with expenses would be greatly appreciated. A fund has been set up at St. Francis C.U.
