Ronald Dotson, Sr.

September 18, 1936 ~ June 14, 2017 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Ronald G. Dotson, Sr., of Afton, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at McLaren Northern Michigan in Petoskey after a long hard battle with health issues.  He is at peace now and with the Lord our God.

Ron was born September 18, 1936 in Detroit, the son of Leo and Loretta (West) Dotson.  Ron met and married Christine Searles in 1976, a marriage of 41 years, having resided most of their lives in Wolverine, and most recently Afton.

In his earlier years, he worked at several different jobs from retail stores to factory work, later joining the U.S. Army and serving as a Military policeman, where sadly, he became disabled.  He loved playing pinnacle, board games, reading, hunting, fishing, camping, and all things outdoors and nature.  Above all else he cherished spending time with family and friends, he cherished them above any material thing, and everyone enjoyed being around him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Sharon, Arlene, and Laura Gay, a son, Ronnie Jr., and a grandson, Samual.

Surviving are his wife, Christine, two brothers, Carl and Chuck, five children from his 1st marriage with Beverly, Vickie, Gerald, Barbara, Shawn, and Philip, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his furry son, Kirby Dotson.

His family wishes to thank the staff at McLaren Northern Michigan and hospice, and all those who prayed for us.  Thank you for your kindness.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017, from 2:00pm-4:00pm, and 6:00pm-8:00pm, at the Lintz Funeral Home in Indian River.  The funeral service will held on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at noon, with the family greeting friends beginning at 11:00am, at the Wolverine Free Methodist Church.  Rev. Steve Evoy will officiate, burial will be at Silver Lake Cemetery in Wolverine, with a luncheon immediately following at the Wolverine Community Center.
