On December 30, 1950, she married Paul Edison Chamberlain, who survives her. She is also survived by her children: Pamela Kay (Gary) Gifford of Midland, Michigan, Robert Edison Chamberlain of Seattle, Washington, Charles David Chamberlain of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and William Lee (Jennifer) Chamberlain of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Ruth was a teacher and food service director for the Petoskey Public Schools for 30 years retiring in 1985. As the food serviced coordinator, she served banquets for as few as 50 to over 600 participants. One of the highlights of her career was being elected president for the Michigan Food Services Association for 1975 - 1976.

Ruth was a life-long member of the Horton Bay United Methodist Church. She served as the church organist form 1968 until 2012. She was active in United Methodist Women as well as a member of the Gideon's International Auxiliary.

While their children were growing up, Ed and Ruth had a vegetable stand selling garden produce as well as Chamberlain's Garden Fresh Jams, for which they are still fondly remembered.
