Ruth I. (Butler) Hanson

Ruth Ileen (Butler) Hanson, 89, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, May 7th, 2018 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey, MI.

She was born on Sept 14th, 1928 in Detroit to the late Percy and Evelyn (Hoopfer) Butler. After graduating from Business College she married Allen Hanson on October 16th,1949 in Charlevoix. They raised 4 children: Larry, Steve, Jeanne, and Cyndi.

Ruth loved gardening, cooking, music, sewing, traveling and camping with family, and spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved the time she spent with her daily personal bible studies. After conquering Polio at the age of 11 Ruthie never allowed such adversity to defeat her “can do” spirit. The progression of Post Polio syndrome never affected her smiling face and sunny disposition.

Ruth is survived by her husband Allen (happily married for 68 years), two sons - Larry (Linda, deceased) of Petoskey, Steve (Rheanne) of Holt, MI, two daughters - Jeanne of Petoskey, and Cyndi of Savannah, GA; 6 grandchildren - Carrie, Lisa, Amanda, Andrew, Frankie and Eric, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 sister Sharon Lyons of Kansas.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Petoskey United Methodist Church with memo to Celebration Garden.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 19th at 11 am (Visitation at 10 am) at the Petoskey United Methodist Church with luncheon to follow for friends and family.
