Sally Carol Shampine of Indianapolis Indiana, formerly of Columbus, Indiana passed away June 5,2019 at the age of 69. She was born in Cheboygan, Michigan November 24,1949 to Francis and Dorothy Shampine.
She was proceeded in death by her parents and her brothers Thomas and David Shampine.
Sally attended Cheboygan Catholic High School and received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Purdue University. Sally began her career when she moved to Washington D.C. after high school to work at the Pentagon. She later settled in Columbus, Indiana where she was employed with Cummins Engine Company for 21 years. Sally was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Columbus, Indiana.
Sally enjoyed music, dancing, and reading. She greatly valued education and previously volunteered as a tutor. She was always eager to help others and was a good friend to many and a devoted mother and grandmother. In 1990 Sally was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis after suffering an MS attack while participating in a Walk America fundraiser. She battled this disease for 29 years with incredible strength and without complaint.
Sally is survived by her daughter Angie (Robert) Hensley-Langrel, grandchildren, Blake (Lexi) Hensley, Christian Langrel, and Raegan Langrel, great-grandchildren, Lelynd and Raeleigh Hensley, siblings, Novalee Niesen, Annette (Bill) Sova, Richard Shampine, Marcia Shampine, Marlene (Craig) Bongard, Rita Gobeyn, Larry Shampine, Cheryl Kwiatkoski, Kim Cook, Denise (Arthur) Watts, Peter Shampine, and dear friends Thomas and Connie Barber.
Visitation will be held at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 10:00 am, with mass at 11:00 am, and burial immediately following at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society in memory of Sally Shampine at nationalmssociety.org. Arrangements are being handled by the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home.
