Shirley Ruth (Taveggia) Buynak

In loving memory of Shirley Ruth Buynak. 

Shirley was born in Detroit on July 18, 1924 and made a peaceful transition to what she called her "new life" on December 7, 2018. 

Shirley grew up in Detroit and married Joseph Peter Buynak in 1946. As stay-at-home-Mom to her daughter, Sharon and son, Gordie she served as Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout den mother, Hockey mom and PTA volunteer. She took an avid interest in her children's' lives and encouraged them to bring their friends to the house. The yard was often filled with kids playing tag, climbing trees or skating on the ice rink Joe built each winter. 

Widowed in 1994, she moved to Petoskey in 1997 to be near her beloved and only grandchild, Daniel. She quickly made friends in her neighborhood and at First Christian Church. Very sociable and outgoing, she had a friendly smile and a quick laugh. She organized neighborhood parties and baked pies for church fundraisers. Shirley organized monthly "Ladies' Lunch Bunch" outings for her church right up until this month. She was a good listener and could offer wise advice when asked.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, and will be dearly missed by her daughter, Sharon Buynak Hines of Newnan, GA, son, Gordon Scott Buynak of Pellston, MI, her grandson, Daniel Joseph Buynak of Harbor Springs, MI, cousin, Gary Hulbert of Destin, FL and "daughter #2," Miriam Joyce of Bay City, MI. She leaves behind many dear, close friends.

A celebration of Shirley's life will be held Tuesday, December 11 at First Christian Church in Petoskey. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. The service will begin at 11:00 with a luncheon served afterward.
