Therese Elizabeth Lawless
Our loving mother at the age of 84 passed away peacefully with family by her side at Perry Farm Village on February 24th, 2018.
She was born in Greenville Michigan on September 10, 1933 to Bernita & Christopher Schrauben and was one of ten siblings. She married Patrick Lawless in 1954 and he preceded her in death in 2010. They were married for 56 wonderful and loving years. Therese is survived by; three children, Linda Hammond (Kevin) of Harbor Springs, Don Lawless (Sherri Jones) of Grand Rapids and Carrie Lawless (Susie Thrapp) of Louisville KY; four grandchildren, Sean Hammond, Keith Hammond; Patrick Lawless and Trilby Lawless; and two sisters Mary Ann Hoy and Bernita Miller.
Therese was a homemaker, Registered Nurse, volunteered with hospice, worked at Bluff Gardens for several years. She was a long time member of the Harbor Misses Extension group of Harbor Springs and Holy Childhood parish.
Therese was the sweetest soul and dealt with dementia for the last several years with grace and a positive attitude. Her saying was “I may be losing my memory but not my joy!” She is an inspiration to all of us on how to handle adversity in our lives and touched many lives with her optimism. She loved collecting rabbit figurines and pictures. She would often say she has a “rabbit habit.” Therese was also known for her very clever puns that would make you laugh and yes, sometimes groan.
She had a wonderful singing voice and one of her favorite songs was Sentimental Journey.
" Gonna take that sentimental journey-sentimental journey home."
She is home now with loved ones all around her. God love her, she will be missed dearly.
Thank you to all of the staff and residents at Perry Farm Village for the incredible care and companionship they provided Therese over the past six years.
A Mass of Christian burial with Fr. Joseph Graff, will be held for Therese; Saturday May 19th at 11:00. Visitation with the family will be in the church gathering space at 10:00 before the mass. She will be laid to rest that afternoon at Holy Childhood (Lakeview) Cemetery.
Donations in Therese’s honor can be made to the Harbor Springs Community Foundation.
